”Accumulations” est le résultat de réflexions et d’explorations visuelles menées par Florence-Ariel Tremblay dans le cadre de sa résidence d’un an à l’Atelier Circulaire.
L’exposition présente des sérigraphies et gravures sur bois où s’entremêlent le paysage, le portrait et les déchets dans une appréciation formelle des objets à usage unique. Issus de l’industrie pétrochimique –sériels, lisses et impersonnels–, ceux-ci furent accumulés au fil des années par l’artiste et mis en œuvre à travers cette résidence de création; dans un effort pour donner un sens à la courte existence de ces objets prédestinés au dépotoir.
Cherchant à concilier son rapport entre la consommation rapide et sa conscience des enjeux environnementaux, l’artiste veut mettre en lumière les contorsions mentales auxquelles nous sommes prêts à nous livrer afin de justifier la poursuite de comportements néfastes pour nous-mêmes et pour l’environnement. « Accumulations » cherche à décrire la relation entre la nature, le possédant et l’objet; quoi défini qui, qui appartient à quoi.

”Accumulations” is the result of research and visual explorations held by Florence-Ariel Tremblay within the context of her one year residency at Atelier Circulaire.
The exhibition showcases screenprints and woodcuts where landscape, portrait and garbage are intertwined in a formal appreciation of single-use objects. Made by the petrochemical industry –serial, sleek and impersonal–, the artist has accumulated these items along the years and integrated them in her works through this creative residency.
In an effort to give purpose to the short-lived existence of these meant-to-become-garbage objects and attempt to reconcile the tension between fast consumption versus her awareness of the current environmental challenges, the artist wanted to highlight the mental contortions we are willing to undergo to justify the pursuit of a destructive lifestyle for our own sake and the environment’s.
« Accumulations » tries to describe the relationship between nature, the possessing and the object; what defines who, who belongs to what.
